Arthur Pindle is a philosophy professor who moved to New Orleans to learn it intimately to write this book. He’s written a screenplay and is working on his next novel. He now lives in Atlanta.

The year is 1825 and the setting is New Orleans; this city where anything goes is the backdrop for a story of love, deception, betrayal and voodoo.

Bayou St. John is a novel filled with non-stop action and intensity as Count Mathieu, a young French aristocrat, flees France after killing a man in a duel. He becomes known as Jacques and travels to America.

In Charleston, South Carolina, he meets Lucas, a slave who has run away after killing his plantation’s overseer. Jacques renames the runaway Pierre, and hides him as his slave. They both escape and travel to New Orleans, where Jacques buys a hotel and these two intriguing fugitives begin their phony master/slave relationship as they try to elude their pursuers and their pasts.
