This gritty novel shows what
life was like living on the Mississippi River in 1770. A poor
and half-starved boy fights not only to survive, but to be
Cock of the Walk.
As the title states, being
“cock of the walk” means being recognized as the “toughest man
on the river.” Above all, Anthony wants respect. In seeking his
dream, the boy has no way of knowing the adventures he will
have. Anthony will fight river pirates and face murderers on the
high seas, sailing from America to exotic foreign lands.
The boy’s mentor and friend,
Captain Davis, helps shape Anthony’s character as they travel
the world. Author Larry V. Williams grew up listening to older
men tell their tales about the cock of the walk, then he went to
work in Mississippi.
Enjoy a rollicking adventure
in Cock of the Walk.
