In Flying High, author Ruby
Jeans Jackson reveals the racism and secrecy flight attendants
in the 60’s and 70’s faced and how they overcame this and other
trials and tribulations.
Flying High
is a tantalizing and graphic
peek into the lifestyle of flight attendants told by someone who
lived it. Amanda Callaway, a flight attendant for 32 years,
takes you back to the good ol’ days when the word ‘stewardess’
was equivalent to a VIP ticket to the good life. They lived in
the fast lane only to find that there was a price to pay. Some
found heartbreak and pain while others paid with their lives.
Since there has never been a
book written about African-American flight attendants, author
Ruby Jeans Jackson took the dive. This “diary” depicts the lives
of six vivacious, volatile stewardesses from different worlds.
The only thing they have in common is that they are all black
and were hired by Elite World Air Lines in the late
sixties/early seventies and based in New Orleans. So, come fly
with them!
