Paganism, Christianity and Culture Collide in Story of Love and
Suspense
Emmanuel
Etienyong’s new novel,
Grand Intimation,
is set in his native Nigeria and follows two main characters,
Nkese and Mark, from their birth to a separation forced by the
annulment of their marriage - on a basis trumped-up by the
Church, acting to save itself from the scandal brought on by
Mark and the derailed seminarian’s indiscretions. The couple’s
story is vividly brought to life with the most compelling
ingredients of fiction, including forbidden love, spiritual
phenomena and heart pounding suspense.
Both Nkese and Mark are born
into similarly traditional Christian homes. But while Mark’s
family roots are pure, leading him to a priestly calling,
Nkese’s are tainted by an ominous ancestral thread of pagan
deity worship. The two are destined to marry from birth. Yet
when their complicated paths finally cross, these different
ancestral lines put their future together in question.
Grand Intimation
takes readers on an exciting, complex journey rooted in deadly
clashes of religion, culture and spirituality with plenty of
suspense to leave them wanting more!
