Hope for Tomorrow’s Families
is the title of Dr. James R. Jacobson’s latest parenting book.
It is also a common theme in all his books, articles and
workshops that he has produced since the early’70s.
Dr.
Jacobson spends his time teaching others and writing about how
we can break the cycle of poor parenting habits. These
habits often lead to feelings of hopelessness on the part of
children, and habits are passed on from generation to
generation.
He says
good parenting is not primarily a matter of techniques, but
rather of who we are as a person. This is all bound up with our
views of ourselves, one another, God, and the world. Our
children learn more from the behavior we model than from what we
say.
His latest
book helps us see the world through the eyes of a child, showing
us how family structures influence children. It also outlines
sources of hope for 21st-century families, while addressing the
greater diversity of families today. Included is a chapter on
Valuing Variety in families.
The book
is not only for parents, but also by parents. It is based on
years of interaction with children and parents in counseling and
classes. The author is indebted to the people in his churches
who offer insights that give
Hope for Tomorrow’s Families.
