About the Illustrator:
World renowned watercolorist Elizabeth Lauder knew that she had been born to paint. In 1971 she received her A.O.C.A. in Fine Art Sculpturing and promptly set about the difficult task of taking three dimensional arts and putting it to paper and canvas. Since then, Elizabeth has been instrumental in developing techniques that are now recognized by the art community including: 18”X 22” frames, “wet” watercolor landscapes and street scenes, and oil painting on stone slabs.  Elizabeth is a member of the Society of Children’s Writers and Illustrators, thanks to Quincy. In illustrating Quincy and his friends, she spread birdseed on the ground in Arizona to entice them to pose for her brushes.

When some children find their niche in a certain sport, whether it’s football, dancing or swimming, they concentrate so hard on that one sport that they never try new things. How will they ever know all their strengths if they don’t explore all their talents? In How the Quail Earned His Topknot, a quail learns that he must branch out and be good at many things in order to succeed.

Quincy the young quail loves running so much that he’s never even tried to fly. All the other quail tease him and think he’s strange. Tired of being made fun of, he decides to learn to fly as well. The quail enters a contest that requires him to run and fly, and he’s set to race against a fast road runner bird. Will his running skills come in handy? Has he had enough practice flying so he can win the race? This cute story teaches children to value each other’s differences.
