Paradise Found and Lost
By Warren G. Guntheroth

Warren Guntheroth’s Paradise Found and Lost is a deeply moving portrayal of a 50-year marriage.

Ellie and Warren knew when they met that they were meant to be together.

Elle, a beautiful student nurse at a Harvard teaching hospital, and Warren, an ambitious intern, married a few months after their first date.

Warren wanted to be a heart specialist and, with Ellie by his side, knew that her exceptional beauty, both inside and out, would only enhance his life and profession.  They traveled to Sweden on a fellowship, then on to Seattle to finish their studies.

Their futures were bright, their bond, unbreakable.  Life became even sweeter with the birth of their first son.  Ellie decided to stay home to raise her child and before long, two more boys were born.  Some very special dogs became part of their family and this picture-perfect life couldn’t get any better.  Warren’s career soared as a heart specialist, teacher and researcher.

The years went by; the boys left home, graduated college and started their own lives.  Ellie and Warren began to revisit the world again, traveling and celebrating 50 glorious years together.

Three months after their 50th wedding anniversary, Ellie received life-changing news from her doctor; she had lung cancer and the prognosis was not good.  This began her two-year struggle—and their battle together—as Ellie succumbed to the disease and Warren watched helplessly as she did so.  Each had always believed they couldn’t love each other more, but they did, fiercely and with no regrets.

Warren Guntheroth takes the reader on an intensely personal journey. This is a love story; a story of promise, hope, devastation, and acceptance, and an eloquent tribute to a woman whose life was cut short, but whose spirit lives on forever.
