Author and
surgeon John Opie writes a revealing novel about a common
process that exists in nearly every business today in
Peer Review: Your Big Brother is
Watching.
Dr. Opie’s
novel begins with Dr. Alex Simms battling a malicious attack by
his colleagues.
As Simms
travels an apocalyptic journey through the dangerous adversarial
process of sham peer review, he learns what he’s up against.
Opie
brings to light the federal, state, and local laws that govern
the process. Designed to discredit those under review, panel
members who sit in judgment are granted full immunity
irrespective of process or ethics. Dr. Simms finds his future
looking very bleak, despite his stellar medical career.
The fourth
part of Opie’s novel transcends the lives of doctors and
hospitals. He expertly interweaves how peer review has been in
place for thousands of years. Citing cataclysmic events that
date back to biblical times, his narration describes how each of
them was an actual peer review process gone awry.
The result
is a shocking, explicit and true account of just how some in
power have been abusing peer review immunity to the detriment of
humanity since the beginning of time.
