Slide: A Modern Satire on the Excess of Greed
By Saira Viola

Saira Viola’s Slide is hipper than a Ripstik razor and twice as sharp.

It’s all about the babes, the booze, the blood and the boom.

Slide is a blisteringly funny crime fiction, filled with eccentric characters and debauchery of all kinds that expertly captures the cultural diversity and chichi grandeur of a drug infused society.

Antoine and Tony are well meaning, all around nice guys with an unrighteous, yet lucrative profession—they deal drugs. The two want to become legitimate businessmen, but find themselves running into a few problems as they try to get their herbal pill company off the ground.  In order to secure the cash for their startup venture, Tony strikes a deal with a kooky English Aristocrat. Their plans go askew however, when Richard, their lawyer and long term friend, embroils them in his own shady dealings.  Richard acquires an international bearer bond worth $100 million, which belongs to Poncho Khan, a notorious  Indian crime boss who has contacts far and wide, and a propensity for the gory and bizarre.

Before they know it, their well-meaning “natural high” pill business, becomes part of a surreal gangster heist.  Can the three men outsmart Poncho before they fall victim to their own depravity?

Slide is a ballsy, honest portrayal of the great, the greedy and the Godless, set during the postmodern boom of Tony Blair’s leadership of Britain.  Viola’s characters are likeable misfits prone to hedonistic activities with one or two outrageous power mongers  thrown in, all wonderfully crafted as they propel into action through a fast-paced, thrusting storyline.

Rich or poor, black or white, it’s all rock and revelry, so buckle up, sit tight, and “get your smoke on.”  This is one jaw-dropping novel you won’t put down until the last page is read.
