Sultry Smith, a thirteen-year
old teenage girl and whiz kid, is the only child of divorced
parents; her best friends and constant companions are her
kittens, Ellie and Lizzie.
Sultry creates a high school
website during summer break with her usual panache, but realizes
she needs some help.
When a boy named Ned answers
an e-mail from Sultry’s website about a second webmaster to help
her to host, Sultry’s not sure. Ned, an awkward teen with bright
red hair, seems a bit strange and he doesn’t even know how to
use a computer! What’s more, he brings his own constant
companion, Kernal, an enormous St. Bernard, with him to apply
for the position.
Sultry decides to give Ned a
chance; after all, he is the only applicant and the two become
fast friends.
When Sultry’s father leaves
home on his usual business trip and doesn’t answer his e-mail,
Sultry becomes worried—where is her Dad? Then a blackout occurs
and Sultry and Ned are left to figure out (without technology)
what may have happened to him. Can the two revive their human
survival skills?
