Author Francis Edward Roberts’ Survival of the Few is the remarkable tale of a small band of Welsh mountain sheep trapped in the upheaval of the disastrous foot and mouth outbreak in the UK in 2001. Facing possible slaughter, the sheep try to escape this violent attack on their lives. Aided by Shadow the sheepdog, the animals seek refuge in the forest below their mountain home in the Brecon hills. Two of the small band of refugees continue further south in search of answers. Faced with a bleak future, they must survive the cold, hunger, fear, and their human pursuers, as well as live with the stark reality of what they witness.

This amazing story of survival was written by someone who was there, working as a wildlife field surveyor at the time of the crisis.
