Meet the Author

Jodi Knapp lives in Peyton, Colorado, and has started on the sequel, On the Road Again. She says, “Riding lets me go into a fantasy world and dream about showing, rodeoing and training horses. I used to train but, after getting hurt and now, 26 surgeries later, I can’t start colts like I used to. I have to watch others do it.”

This is the first in a series about Kelly, a rodeo barrel racer, and Lucky, her horse. The series explores rodeo life and how Lucky and Kelly work together as a team. The author brings her own experiences as a barrel racer to her writing.

Kelly is just finishing her first year of rodeo competition. During her last chance of the season to qualify for the College National Finals rodeo in Las Vegas, her horse, Tex, takes a fall. Kelly flies off and ends up with a concussion. Tex is injured too badly to ever barrel race again, so Kelly must find a new horse. Out of a dozen quarter horses, one stands out. A grey stallion stays in one spot when the others run off. Kelly then hears someone laughing at her. She looks around but doesn’t see anyone. She realizes the grey stallion is the one laughing at her and is calling her an idiot. Kelly looks the stallion straight in the eye and the two discover an unexplainable connection. They can communicate with each other!
