Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, author M. Buland Burns is a retired professor of psychology. He has previously published a book of poetry and art. Burns lives in Sun City, Calif., while his co-author, Heather L. Burns, lives in New York City.

The 1950s beach culture in California is the backdrop for this story about 32-year-old Mike Burns, also known as “Heavy Duty.” Amid the jalopy rides and the birth of rock and roll, Mike was fighting the demons of alcohol.

The author also writes about his adventures with “THE FAMILY” in Newport Beach, Calif., why he left his studies in a Ph.D. program, and ultimately, the solution he sought for a new direction in life that touches on the inspirational.

This fabulous fifties story is over a half-century old, yet its freshness will amaze you as you travel along with the author on his bold path.
