Author and trainer Colin
Alston writes a story, The Invisible Boy, about a child
learning to cope with his feelings of anxiety.
Six-year-old
Zac is having trouble fitting in with his classmates at school.
Zac doesn’t
understand his upsetting emotions and tries bravely to ignore
them. He doesn’t want to tell anyone, especially his Mum, but
he doesn’t know how to make these feelings go away.
When Zac
finally builds up the courage to talk to someone, he finds out
that he doesn’t have to feel anxious or scared anymore. As he
learns how to apply problem-solving strategies, he discovers a
brand new world with friends and fun.
Alston’s story
is a must-read for parents, teachers and children.
Incorporating specific strategies into a story that children can
easily relate to will invite discussion about feelings of
insecurity and anxiety and pave the way toward self-assurance
and responsibility.
