Andy Harris’
Tick Tock Grandad’s Sweetshop blends a delightful children’s
story with important life lessons.
Austin is a
young boy who loves to listen to his grandfather’s stories.
One day Austin
and his Grandfather gather near the fire, their favourite spot,
to talk about how life was when his granddad was a young man.
Grandad owned
and managed his own sweetshop as a young man. He and his wife
worked tirelessly to make their business a success.
With the clock
ticking and a warm fire crackling in the fireplace, Austin
learns of the sacrifices his grandfather made. He learns that
it not only takes hard work, but imagination and creativity in
order to realize a dream. Most importantly, Austin learns that
it also takes believing in one’s self and letting nothing stand
in the way of making those ambitions a reality.
Harris’
endearing story is a treasure of a book that teaches children
the importance of working toward a goal and the pride one feels
once accomplishing it. The author’s voice resonates with
children—relating fond and universal experiences—while
incorporating valuable life lessons of honouring family and
using honesty, hard work, integrity and imagination to achieve a
fulfilling and successful life.
