History meets fiction in this
epic tale of Celts and Romans fighting it out on the ancient
battlefields of England. A love affair is thrown in for good
measure to spice up the novel.
Celtic Princess Ceridwen of Iceni is beginning to have doubts
about her upcoming marriage. Then she meets Marek, an Egyptian
officer with the Roman 14th Legion. He sweeps her off her feet
and they discover they share each other’s darkest desires.
Coming from vastly different cultures, Ceridwen and Marek find
they have a lot in common and plan a life together once Marek
finishes his term of duty. But war between their countries
suddenly puts the two on opposing sides.
After the Roman Emperor Claudius is assassinated, the new
emperor, Nero, declares Iceni a Roman province, bringing the two
nations to war. Iceni destroys the Roman city of Londinium,
killing 70,000 residents. Meanwhile, Marek and his outnumbered
troops are the only Roman force left in Britannia.
About the Author
Ronald L. Haines finds ancient culture fascinating and believes
that “people are really no different now than they were 2,000
years ago in terms of motivations.” He is working on his next
book, Lamb of the Lion, set in the same time period, but in
Judea. Raised in Nottingham, England, Haines now lives in
Sagamore Hills, Ohio, where he and his wife own an insurance
brokerage.
