Zachary Zoom
By Jessica Kidd

Jessica A. Kidd’s Zachary Zoom invites children to explore a tiny, magical world in a little boy’s backyard.

Zachary Zoom is the little boy whose job is to manage a tiny world of activity—the insect world, or “The Realm of Back Yard.”

Zachary is a tiny engineer, as small as the insects that reside in the backyard world, and his job is vitally important! Zachary must ensure that the Insect Express can transport all the insects to and fro throughout the day, getting them to their destinations in order for their world to run as it should. It is indeed a constant buzz of activity!

Zachary has many friends that bring him news, both good and bad, of every single activity that may be going on. One day Polly Wog, leader of the Frog Squad has some very important news.  The Snorpions, a group of half scorpion/half snake-like creatures, are bored and want to stir up some trouble. They’re tired of just playing in their Sand Box Desert Home and they want to destroy the train, stop the other insects and claim the whole Back Yard Realm for themselves!

Zachary and Polly Wog enlist the help of General Grasshopper Grey to come up with a plan to try and stop these bullies. They’ll need the help of all the tiny insects in the community to battle the Snorpions.

Will Zachary and his team be able to stop the Snorpions before they take over?

With childlike and fun-loving narrative, Kidd’s absolute delight of a children’s tale is one that children will want to read over and over again. Her vivid imagination captures a tiny, unseen world and expertly brings its characters to life.
